One thing A Thousand Blows promises is punchy episodes (literally) and all the gorgeous vibes of Victorian England. If there’s one thing about UK TV shows, it’s that a period piece is always on the table – I mean, look how popular Peaky Blinders and Bridgerton are?
A Thousand Blows is delivering drama and intrigue, but it’s also delivering history! If you’re also interested by the backdrops when Sugar, Hezekiah, and Alec aren’t at each other’s throats, then come check out the A Thousand Blows filming locations across London.
Where was A Thousand Blows filmed?
Just as A Thousand Blows is set in London, it was also filmed on location in London! The city is as old as time (more accurately 1987 years old), and absolutely steeped in history. Many Victorian era buildings and monuments still stand today, so if you’re ever in need for a blast to the past, it’s worth a visit.
The Story Works, Mortlake, London
The Story Works is an impressive 9 hectare filming studio right in London, and it’s here that a lot of the filming took place. Elaborate time-accurate sets were able to be built, both indoors and outdoors, and this is what brought 1880s London back to life.
On the riverside by Mortlake Brewery, a 22-acre set of Victorian London was erected, giving the cast and crew a lot of ground to play with! As this is a set, you won’t be able to visit this A Thousand Blows filming location exactly, but you can check out the area and see what other movie magic is being made!
Where can I go in London to see Victorian buildings?
Many of England’s iconic landmarks like the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, and Tower Bridge are all reminiscent of London’s Victorian age.
Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace are both right in the heart of the city as well, giving you a taste of that regal era, as well as Westminster Abbey, and many of London’s favourite museums: the British Museum and National Gallery.
You can visit most of these (if not all, depending on how long you want your stroll to be) on a walk during 24 hours in London!
