1. For some fantastic designer bargains in New York City, head to Century 21, just opposite Ground Zero. At times it can be a bit like a gigantic frantic rummage sale, but if you persevere you’ll come away with some designer duds for practically nothing!

2. This comment is actually about hair straighteners – very important ladies! If you take 220-240 v straighteners to the USA or Canada (and anyone fromthe UK, Europe or OZ/NZ probably will) then they will never get hot enough to straighten your hair, and voltage converters will blow your appliance. However, if you can’t live without ‘em, any large drugstore sells cheap but decent straighteners fom $20 – so you can sort yourself out for the whole time away…

3. MOMA is well worth a visit, and if you’re short on cash, has free entry between 4pm-8pm on Friday nights. It does get very crowded though…
