  1. mmmm … pie

  2. On my first Contiki tour I was nervous about taking my digital camera, so I took a few of those cheap disposable cameras instead. Huge mistake. Take your digital camera with you everywhere. If you don’t have one, buy one before you go. Or do what I did … make friends with the person on your tour who has the nicest camera. They will carry their camera everywhere and take a bunch of pics with you in them. (Thanks Lisa!)

  3. Fisherman’s warf is a lot like Pisa in Italy … sure it’s a tourist trap… but you still should go.

  4. I have only been on two Contikis …on both of them it seemed like there were a few people who only wanted to party, and a few people who had absolutely no interest in it whatsoever.

But the majority of people I met, enjoyed the culture and experiences during the day, but also had a drink or two each night.

My advice: Dont get wasted every night. You can do that at home. Have a drink, be social, but dont waste your trip by being hung over every morning.

  5. While all the tourists are crowding around the Mona Lisa, you can stay in the adjacent hall and find Leonardo’s “Virgin of the Rocks” ... which is a much more interesting painting (IMHO)

If there happens to be an attractive art fan looking at the same painting, walk up and say: “Leonardos use of chiaroscuro in this piece is quite sublime”. Then nod knowingly at whatever they reply back.

  6. If the weather permits, walk. New York is an amazing tactile experience. There is something new on every corner. The Subway is safe (in the daytime at least) and its fast, but I would recommend you stay on street level to really experience the city. Or if you are in a hurry, take the M1 bus down Fifth avenue

  7. In Amsterdam there is a big difference between a “Cafe” and a “Coffee Shop”. If you are not sure … check with your Tour Manager first. ;)

  8. If you go to the red light district, go with a group of friends … otherwise it’s a bit creepy.
