Contiki Media Contest – Frequently Asked Questions

When Is the Contest Period?

The contest runs from 12:01:01 pm, PT, February 12, 2008 to 11:59:59 pm, PT, December 31, 2008. No entries will be accepted after 12/31/08.

Who Is Eligible For the Contest?

You may enter the contest if you are a legal resident living in the 48 contiguous United States and D.C. and Canada and are between 18 and 35 years of age at the time of entry. This contest is void where prohibited and in Puerto Rico and Quebec.

When Are Winners Chosen?

There will be four (4) drawing periods in which there will be one winner in the video section and one winner in the photo(s) section (eight (8) quarterly winners in total). The drawing periods will end at 11:59:59 pm, PT on March 31, June 30, September 30 and Dec 31, 2008. In addition, there will be one Grand Prize winner selected in each of the video and photo(s) sections from all entries submitted during the entire contest.

How is the judging based?

Contiki marketing will judge all entries and will choose the eight (8) quarter winners as well as the two (2) grand prize winners. Each entry will be judged on the following:

  • Creativity (15%)
  • Originality (25%)
  • Entertainment quality in the form of humor or as an expression of the joy of travel (25%)
  • Ability to be used for marketing purposes to stimulate 18-35 year-old travel (35%)

What does the grand prize include?

  • One (1) photo contest winner and one (1) video contest winner will each be awarded: A Contiki trip for two (2) consisting of: roundtrip, coach airline travel for two (2) from the international airport nearest winner’s residence to/from winner’s choice of destination, including Europe, Russia, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, Canada or USA. The exact itinerary will be chosen by Contiki.
  • Winners must book travel 90 days before departure date and travel is subject to blackout dates & space availability.

What do the quarter prizes include?

  • Four (4) photo quarter contest winners will each be awarded: one (1) Gravis luggage set which includes one (1) Jetway bag and one (1) Metro bag.
  • Four (4) video contest winners will be awarded: one (1) Gravis luggage set which includes one (1) Jetway bag and one (1) Metro bag.

How am I notified if I am a winner?

Contiki marketing will contact all winners via phone & email (if necessary) within 30 days of each drawing period end date. Winners will be announced on our YouTube, Flickr & Facebook sites; as well as on our contest webpage

How do I register for the contest?

After uploading your entries go to www.bookcontiki.com/mediacontest and complete the entry form by submitting ALL the requested information including a link to the video or photo(s) you posted. You will be asked to review and agree with the Contiki Privacy Policy and the Official Rules of this Contest. You must check all boxes and submit your entry in order to be considered in this contest. You may submit as many entries as you wish but each entry must be uploaded separately and you must complete a new entry form for each submission.

If I am not selected as a quarter winner will my entry remain eligible in subsequent quarters?

Yes, all non-winning submissions will be carried over into subsequent quarters.

May I enter a video &/or photo in which I submitted for a previous Contiki contest?

No, entries submitted in other Contiki contests are NOT valid. Entries must be original, created solely by entrant, not have been previously published or won previous awards, and not infringe on the rights of any third party.

May I enter more than one entry?

Yes, the number of different entries per applicant is unlimited throughout the contest. Please, no duplicate entries.

Do I have to submit my entry to all 3 sites; YouTube, Flickr & Facebook?

No, you do not have to submit your entries to all 3 sites. Entries are valid as long as they are submitted to at least one site (YouTube, Flickr, or Facebook).

What do I have to tag my entries as?

The tags for entries should be “Contiki”, “Contiki Media 08” or “Travel”. You may add any other tags if you’d like.

What should my video entry include?

  • Video footage needs to have taken place on a trip within the last five years
  • Any music incorporated throughout the video must be original or royalty free
  • Video time limit is a minimum one (1) minute and maximum three (3) minutes.
  • The video should show, in a creative manner, the friendship-filled, multi-cultural, educational, life-changing and joyful experience of travel.
  • Upload your video to http://www.youtube.com/group/contikicontest2008 or to http://www.facebook.com/contiki and follow the directions to complete the posting.

Are the photo and/or video entries required to have taken place in Contiki’s destinations?

No, entries are not limited to have taken place in Contiki’s destinations (i.e Europe, Egypt, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Bali, Canada, USA).

What should my photo entry include?

  • Photos need to have taken place on a trip within the last five years,
  • You may submit a photo or a group of photos.
  • The photo(s) should show, in a creative manner, the friendship-filled, multi-cultural, educational, life-changing and joyful experience of travel.
  • Upload your photo(s) to www.flickr.com/groups/contikicontest2008 or to www.facebook.com/contiki and follow the directions to complete the posting.

By submitting my entries, what am I agreeing to?

Contiki will receive the right to use and publish the biographical information that you provide (except street address, telephone number, and e-mail address) and the submitted video or photo(s) in all media, including, but not limited to, online displays, television, cable, video productions, wireless applications and other media channels and applications and for advertising, promotions, other Contests sponsored by Contiki and other purposes.
