Sailing in the Whitsundays

See The Whitsunday’s from your own private yacht! This sailing option upgrade is a great alternative to spending 2 nights at Daydream Island Resort by spending 2 days & nights onboard an eco-certified maxi yacht instead. We use three different yachts – the Condor, Broomstick and Hammer – all of which are famous ocean racing yachts now specially fitted out for charter.

The Whitsundays is part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. This area has over 90 mostly uninhabited national park islands boasting heavenly white beaches and crystal clear waters. Sailing is a great way to see it all including a visit to “Whitehaven Beach”/contikipedia/articles/whitehaven-beach and two of the best snorkeling spots in the Whitsundays – definite highlights of the trip!

If you want to learn about sailing, the crew will teach you how to hoist the sails and grind the winches. But if you’d prefer to relax, sunbake and soak up the atmosphere – you can leave the hard work to them. Swim, snorkel, or laze your way around this tropical paradise.

The yacht returns to Daydream Island after lunch on the third day in time to enjoy the island’s afternoon activities and an evening of fun.

Contiki’s Prosail sailing tours use minimal fossil fuels so the environmental impact of your visit to this beautiful area is minimal. Prosail is eco-certified.

This sailing option upgrade is available on several of our Australian itineraries. Check them out here!

About the yachts
Contiki partners with leading sail operator, Prosail, to offer an awesome sailing adventure. You will experience the thrill of maxi yacht sailing on boats ranging from 76 – 80 feet.

Yacht Condor is one of the most successful racing maxi yachts ever built, winning two ‘Sydney to Hobart Ocean Classics’, ‘The Pan Pacific Cup’ in Hawaii, ‘The Fastnet Race’ in the UK and the ‘World Maxi Championships’!

Yacht Broomstick was purpose built for the ‘Capetown to Rio Ocean Race’ and finished as a runner up in the race.

Yacht Hammer placed five consecutive times in the Top 5 finishers of the ‘Sydney to Hobart Ocean Classic’.
