Luggage weight & size limits in North America
Last Updated: Nov. 22, 2011
More Tour and Travel Advice for the USA and Canada
Contiki Tours in the USA and Canada have a luggage restriction of 1 × 20 kilogram (44lbs) bag and 1 x carry on bag. Any reasonable sized suitcase however is okay. Although your bags won’t be weighed, if your suitcase is too heavy then you will have to load and unload it on and off the bus yourself. (Workplace health and safety for your Driver)
On US tours it’s best to roughly stick to to the 73cm x 50cm x 25cm (29″ × 20″ × 10″) and 20 kilogram (44lb) weight restriction.
If you are returning to Anaheim you will have the option of storing your excess luggage at the Stovalls Inn at Anaheim.
Clients not returning to Anaheim should take note of this as they will not be able to bring excess luggage on the coach.
On tours with included flights as part of the itinerary, you’ll need to make sure your luggage doesn’t exceed the weight restrictions imposed by airlines. Contiki is not responsible for any costs incurred for overweight luggage.
For information regarding airline luggage fees & limits, please visit our comprehensive list linking to airline websites and their specific luggage restrictions.

@aimee490 Depending on airline, its 23kg to the USA, and 32kg (or 2pces) to Australia – to encourage us to shop. Contiki’s rules contradict the airline allowance, but what I’m doing is taking a suitcase in my suitcase and shop at the end of my tour.

I agree.. Im kinda worried about doing the contiki after visiting New York if I have to keep the weight down… My tour starts and finishes in different cities so I can’t leave part of my luggage behind either!

I would like to know what the restrictions are for your carry on bag? Must it be a backpack or can it be a small wheelie bag the same size as aircraft carry on restrictions?

Suck it up people. If everybody bought a large bag it wouldn’t all fit under the bus

I am doing the Best of USA tour in July, seeing there’s no travelling around on a bus in this tour, what are the weight restrictions for internal flights in the US?

This may sound a little stupid, but it says were allowed one bag for luggage and a carry on bag. Would a handbag be included as a carry on bag? Or can we have both?!

i don’t know feasible this is but have you concidered sending your excess luggage to your last point of call for the trip, you never know if you can organise with the hotel or someone to have it delivered/courriered

I’m travelling a bit before and after my tour in the US starting soon, and I think we just have to make do girls! Rules are rules and at the end of the day if your pack is overweight, you’re the one that has to lug it around! I would just pack as lightly as possible for a longer trip – you can always wash everything, don’t forget! Or maybe look into some storage options where you can leave extra baggage while you’re on the trip?

I ask the same as Milo above…If we are going to spend more days in the US, travelling after the tour ends – What are we supposed to do?

I agree with you Aimee490, it sounds a bit silly and a bit much to ask of the traverlers who are going onto other places and are in the states longer then the tour… what are we suppose to do?

Is this just a rough guide or do we HAVE to stick to these limits? I’m flying from Australia to do a US tour and the airline allows us to have a 32kg suitcase that’s nearly double the dimensions of the contiki one. I understand there would be limited room on the bus, and the driver’s health and safety, but it seems a bit silly cutting your luggage down that much just for 11 days of a month long trip?
