The Tyrol is a region of western Austria and northern Italy most famous for its towering Alps, fantastic skiing and laid back, casual yet active lifestyle and fresh, clean environment.

Home to towns like Hopfgarten, Innsbruck and Itter in Austria and Bozen on the Italian side of the border. The region also incorporates the Brenner Pass on the Austrian/Italian border.

The people of the Tyrol share many cultural similarities with the Bavarians of southern Germany however they possess a fierce cultural independence from their fellow German-speakers and even their own countrymen. If you’re in a bar in a region and ask someone if they’re Austrian, often the answer will be “No! I’m Tyrolian!” – Prost.

  1. I didn’t want to do the mountain bike ride or paragliding or white water rafting, so I thought all I could do in the Tyrol was look at scenery. That was until I discovered the cable car up the mountain- it was absolutely BRILLIANT! You went up in a cable car, then a three-person seater, and lastly in a single little seat, the last two were really scary because they couldn’t stop the machine so you had to jump on! Really nerve-wrecking but definitely worth it cos of the scenery and the whole adventure of it, wish I could go on one of those every day!

  2. The Tirol is one of the most beautiful parts of the world. If you visit Hopfgarten, visit the trout farm – you can catch a fish, then have it for lunch!

  3. Don’t forget to do the Parapenting if offered … costly, and bring your camera (don’t drop it though).
