If you choose to use travellers cheques try to arrange them in New Zealand Dollars in NZ$20 and NZ$50 denominations as they can be cashed almost anywhere. Travellers cheques in foreign currency can be cashed most readily at banks, banks in New Zealand however are closed on the weekends.
Make a note of your travellers cheque numbers, leave a copy at home and carry a copy separate from your cheques in case of loss or theft.
