What to pack for travel to other parts of the world

uluru above

The following is a suggested packing list for an Australian tour.

People are individuals though and often have personal preferences and opinions as to what to bring. The following then is not a definitive list, but should give you a good guide as to what you should pack for your Australian tour.

Clothes

  • 1 rain jacket
  • 1 warm jacket
  • 2 pairs of jeans
  • Shorts/skirts
  • 3 casual shirts
  • 2 T-shirts
  • Jacket and trousers or dresses (for evenings out)
  • 1 warm sweater
  • Tracksuit
  • Socks (lots)
  • Underwear (lots)
  • Nightwear
  • Swim wear and towel

Shoes

  • Comfortable shoes (for outdoor activities)
  • Sandals/thongs/flip flops
  • Going out shoes

Toiletries

  • Toiletry bag and contents
  • 1 small bath towel
  • Suntan lotion
  • Insect repellent
  • Aspirins/medications
  • Handkerchiefs/tissue

Miscellaneous

The Australian sun is very harsh and you should also consider clothing that protects you from sunburn.

Label your suitcase inside and out with your name and your home address and perhaps attach a sticker, ribbon, patch or other unique identifier to your luggage to make it easier to spot.

Carry a copy of your passport, visas, travel and other important documents as well as your travellers cheque numbers (if you use them) with you in your luggage. You should also leave a copy of all this information at home with someone trusted and contactable while you are away.

Don’t pack your travel documents and passport in your luggage, rather take it with you in your carry luggage.

Tours to the Northern Territory

On tours traveling to the Northern Territory you should also consider packing:

  • Hiking shoes or trainers – there is a lot of walking to be done in the outback
  • A hat and water bottle – to help deal with the desert heat
  • Clothes that can get dirty – the red dirt of the desert can make white clothes dirty very quickly

  3. I heard that solar – and it seems to take weeks for them to sort it out! I don’t understand what the issue is really – afterall, Bangkok, Singapore and HK have managed to open entirely new terminals or the whole new airport with very little disruption recently. My advice to anyone flying to southern England would be to fly into Paris and catch the high speed train or fly into Manchester!cialis

  7. If you’re heading for Queensland (QLD – where I live) definately pack plenty of swimmers, and T-shirts and Shorts. Nobody really wears long pants in Summer as it’s way too hot and humid. Most people wear slip on shoes called “thongs” (funny name I know), in summer, or at least open shoes. We are a pretty laid back bunch, so casual clothes are the go everywhere except for clubs at night (smart casual needed). Even in winter in QLD you can get away with wearing shorts and Tshirts as the days can still get up to about 28 degrees celsius. Usually nights are aroung 8-9 degrees in Brisbane, getting warmer as you head up the coast to the Great Barrier Reef region. Hope this helps!

  8. Just did the 2week contiki tour (beaches and reefs) it was cold so i’d advise anyone considering going in their winter bring a few hoodies and jeans when visiting the beach :)

  9. Must go to the beaches!! If your going in summer (December – February) you MUST bring swimmers! I’d take at least two pairs.
Also, if your not a confident swimmer and are going to a beach, please please make sure you listen to the lifeguards and stay in between the red and yellow flags. It’s tragic to see travelers trying to enjoy their visit and end up in an accident that could have been avoid by simply following the instructions.

  10. PLACES TO VISIT: When in Sydney visit the blue mountains, Bondi beach, Manly beach and Palm Beach.
When in Cairns do snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef (never to be forgotten).
When in Brisbane visit Surfers Paradise and Wet ‘n’ Wild water park.

  11. Advice for anyone going over to Aussie from a mild, moderate climate (like where I’m from, Ireland or England etc.) do not bring a hair straightner and only bring a hairdryer if your planning on staying in hostels etc. where they are not provided. I brought mine and it was just a waste of space it was to hot to bother.
