The French love sport. Any type of sport. Some of the events they are more famous for however are the French Open tennis on the clay courts of Roland Garros, surfing in the Bay of Biscay, skiing in the alps, sailing and petanque in the South of France and martial arts, Formula 1 racing and handball nation-wide.
Basketball is a hugely popular sport along with Rugby with the French hosting the World Cup of Rugby in 2007 while like much of Europe, football (soccer) is easily the most popular game. No event is more important to the French than the Tour De France. Cycling is the national sport and every July the two weeks of the ‘Le Tour’ engrosses the country.
