Santa Monica, just a little north of Venice Beach in Los Angeles, has featured in songs, movies and television for as long as Hollywood has been the center of the movie-making world. The beach is wide and sandy and very popular with locals and tourists alike while the iconic rides of the Santa Monica Pier are arguably the most famous attraction in the area.

Be wary of gladiators outside the colosseum. They don't take photos for free and can be quite agressive about their payment. Also don't be fooled into taking an unlicensed guided tour of the Colosseum either....
Make sure you try currywurst in Germany. It's basically a hot dog with tomato sauce (ketchup) and curry powder. Tastes brilliant and only costs 1 or 2 Euro.
