All the usual safety and security precautions when travelling in South East Asia.
In Thailand, there is a special Tourist Police force that employs approximately 500 English-speaking officers who are stationed in tourist areas and deal specifically with tourism-related crimes, especially gem fraud and thefts. To contact the Tourist Police you can walk into any of their offices in the area or dial 1155 from any phone in Thailand (24 hour service) or 678 6800 in Bangkok. Help in English is also available at the Tourist Assistance Centre in Bangkok at 281 5051.
