Route 66 is widely known as “The Mother Road” and recently spoofed in the animated film “Cars”. The images and thought of early American travelers celebrate the romance and freedom of automobile travel of Route 66.

It was also made famous from the hit song “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” by Bobby Troup sung in 1946.

As mentioned in the song it passes though many cities including St. Louis, Missouri; Joplin, Missouri; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Amarillo, Texas Gallup, New Mexico; Flagstaff, Kingman, Winona and Williams, Arizona (Gateway to the Grand Canyon) Barstow and San Bernardino, California.

Route 66 also passes through many other towns not mentioned here as well.

Every year thousands of people drive the entire stretch of this road for vacations and to relive the memories of the past glory days of ‘The Mother Road’.
