Rockhampton
‘Rocky’ is the self proclaimed Beef Capital of Australia and is situated on the Capricorn Coast along the east coast of Queensland.
In honour of the bovine population on whom the city relies upon, four life-sized concrete statutes of bulls have been erected along the main street of the city. The net result of this is that drunken University students with sledgehammers make a habit of stealing their balls at a rate of about one set per month. If you’re a student in Rockhampton and your household doesn’t have at least one bulls-balls doorstop, you haven’t been living!
Rockhampton is the biggest city in the region and it a one night stop on many Contiki Tours traveling along the east coast of Australia, usually headding north from Fraser Island or south from Mackay.
The Capricorn Coast
The Capricorn Coast is a region of Queensland, Australia where the Tropic of Capricorn crosses the coast. The tropic of Capricorn is a parallel of latitude that lies 23°30’ south of the equator and it is generally used as a marker for the southern boundary of the tropics. The term ‘Capricorn’ comes from the Latin words caper (goat) and cornu (horn) and the zodiac style symbol can be seen through out the region.
Koorana Crocodile Farm
Most Contiki Tours staying in Rockhampton offer an evening excursion to the Koorana crocodile farm and dinner.
