Port Douglas

Port Douglas is located 67 kilometers north of Cairns, North Queensland, Australia.
Now a super-exclusive resort town, Port Douglas was first established in 1877 when Christie Palmerston cut a road through the rainforest and down the mountain range. Today it is a luxury holiday resort. and although Contiki Tours do not stay there, the Sheraton Hotel complex and golf course has created a secluded holiday resort getaway for the super rich and famous.
The rows of palm trees, huge apartments and gate security staff who scrutinise mere tourists has allowed the rest of the town to grow into a posh but beautiful center of fashionable arcades and well-heeled shoppers.
The village maintains and a certain aloofness that is in contrast the ‘anything goes’ casual attitude larger southern neighbor. Port Douglas is a favorite holiday spot of former US President, Bill Clinton.
Many Contiki tours heading into the tropical rainforest of the Daintree, north of Cairns, will stop into Port Douglas on their way to or from Cape Tribulation. Other great places Visited between Cape Tribulation and Cairns include Kuranda and Mossman Gorge.

Port Douglas is an amazing town! A great combination of a fun and vibrant city with that of a laid back, casual atmosphere of a small town all in a beautiful location in tropical Australia!
