Once land owned by private European settlers, Parry Kauri Park lies between Auckland and the Bay of Islands on the North Island of New Zealand. The park was once privately owned but is now a forest reserve famous for its Kauri Trees, the largest trees in New Zealand.

Although similar trees can be found in the southern hemisphere, the Kauri species in New Zealand is arguably the most famous with the oldest trees being around 1000 years in age and although they are very tall, (growing to a height of roughly 50 meters or 150 feet) their girth is what makes these trees so massive. It’s not only the size of these trees that makes them significant, but also the length of time they have been on the planet. The existence of the species can be traced back to the Jurassic period also making it one of the earths most ancient species of plant – just another piece of New Zealand’s amazing, utterly unique and fascinating natural environment.
