No trip to Austria would be complete without sampling at least some of the country’s simply fantastic food and drink.

Schnitzel, (crumbed then fried meats) are easily the most popular food here with wiener (pork) schnitzel perhaps being the most famous. The Austrians however will schnitzel almost anything and it’s not uncommon to come across turkey or beef schnitzel however the most popular and famous is the Wiener Schnitzel.

Apple Strudel, cakes and pasties have been Austrian delicacies and favorites for hundreds of years, particularly in the cafes and coffee houses of Vienna with perhaps the most famous being the Sachertorte chocolate cake made famous in Vienna. There is much controversy surrounding the ‘official’ secret recipe but this famous cake is also available in Innsbruck as well as other cafes through the country.

You will find the famous purple wrapper of Milka milk chocolate as well as Mozart chocolate balls almost everywhere. Almdudler soft drink, Red Bull energy drinks and, Steigel, Gosser and Zipfer beers and the favored local beverages but perhaps the most famous drop to come from Austria is schnaps – Prost!.
