In contrast to other more mountainous regions of Scandinavia, Denmark is relatively low, flat and consists of over 500 islands. The country also shares a small land border with Germany in the south. The largest and capital city is the port town of Copenhagen while the countryside is dotted with cobblestoned villages and towns.
Manners and Customs
- The Danes have no real word for ‘please’ and lack there of should not be mistaken for rudeness
- Tipping is not required
Art and Culture
Denmark’s favorite son is without question author Hans Christian-Anderson who wrote stories such as ‘The Ugly Duckling’, ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ and perhaps his most famous piece, ‘The Little Mermaid’.

Some other suggestions, although not necessary - Travel pillow, chewing gum (especially for those who have ear problems during flight), book and/or ipod and one change of clothing (air lines do lose luggage occasionally)
Cafe lattes, bruchetta, chianti, gnochi, limoncella, baci chocolates, gelati, pizza, it's impossible to not try everything in Italy.
Itter was one of the nicest town's I've ever been in, absolutely gorgeous. It's a sleepy town, but on Contiki you bring your own nightlife. This was one stop I wont forget.
