More Tour and Travel Advice for Europe
by – Matt Vernick, Tour Manager, Europe
To avoid coming down with illnesses while you travel you should eat and rest well while on tour, avoid drinking too much alcohol and take some simple health precautions.

A common condition that some Contiki participants may experience while on tour. Such symptoms may include, but are not limited to; the common cold, cough, fever, sore throat, or a combination of all the ailments.
The belief behind the cause of this affliction is that these participants may lack sleep, party too hard, drink too much or a combination of all of the above while on tour. This generally does not bode well for their immune system, and due to the unfamiliar environment and stresses, participants acquire this extra tour experience.
Generally, Contiki participants spend many hours in close confines of their humble abode (aka, the “coach”) and once one person falls ill, the likely hood of their malady being shared with other is quite high.

Yes, we all know the best way to avoid getting coming down with an illness is to “eat and rest well while on tour, avoid drinking too much alcohol and take some simple Health precautions” as mattyvcontiki says. But there’s one important thing to remember – most of the fun happens on Contiki when partying i.e. drinking and staying up late for most of the nights out. So it’s basically unavoidable that you will come down with something.. I myself went on two Contiki tours, both 1 month long. Needless to say I ended up catching the common cold on the first one, and on the second I came down with the ‘Contiki cough’ that lasted for the last 3 weeks of tour! And I wasn’t the only one – by the end most people had been sick to some degree.
