A famous name that lends itself to wines produced in this region, this is a town with a population of roughly 1 million inhabitants including suburban areas. It is also has one of Europe’s largest universities (University of Bordeaux) with more than 50,000 students; including other public and private colleges and universities, this is home to almost 100,000 students. If Bordeaux is part of your itinerary, make your way to the old classical part of town. The transition from modern present day buildings to 18th century architecture appears suddenly and you’ve entered another world. Old classical buildings sparsely dotted by restaurant terraces and cafes with many streets for pedestrian use only.
