It is impossible to overstate the importance of beer to the Germans and most Germans will admit that some of the best beer in the country comes from Bavaria and Munich in particular. Summer time finds people outside enjoying a ‘mass’ (1 liter) beer at almost any time of day until the sun goes down and the atmosphere gets turned up in the many beer halls in the city. The English Garten is home to some great outdoor beer gardens while beer halls such as the tourist-filled but fun Hofbrauhaus and the more local Munchner Haupt and Augustinerbrau.

Even if you are not a beer drinker, the vibe and atmosphere created in the halls of Munich is one of pure fun and enjoyment and is a true piece of Bavarian culture. The ultimate Bavarian beer hall experience however is the “Oktoberfest””:/contikipedia/articles/oktoberfest held in the last two weeks of September every year and over 6 million people travel from Europe and the rest of the world to visit the event.
