Italy is filled with churches and Venice, although being an island, is no exception to this. There are over 200 churches in Venice and most of them are fee to go inside. Like Rome, you fill find beautiful interiors and paintings in almost all of them.

The Venetians were good friends with and never far behind the Medici’s of Florence when it came to sponsoring art during the Renascence. As such there are works by Bellini, Titan and Donatello in churches like Frari all throughout the city. The Accademia Museum on the south side of the Accademia bridge is home to some early Renascence art but also to the south of the Bridge you can also find the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, filled with modern art from Picasso, Dali, Ernst, Pollock, Miro and many others.

The most visited and most impressive however would have to be the Museum contained in the upper levels of St Marks Basilica. Home to an ancient collection of Byzantine mosaics as well as the original 4 horses that used to adorn the front of the Basilica, alleged to date back to pre-Roman times.
